The Alps Hockey League will be played on all days this week except Monday and Sunday. Six games are on the program from Tuesday to Friday.
Among other things, EC Bregenzerwald, currently unbeaten for six games in a row, will face defending champion EK Die Zeller Eisbären on Wednesday. HC Migross Asiago is the only team that will be playing twice in the coming days. In addition, SG Cortina, a team from the Alps Hockey League, will be in action in the Continental Cup from Friday to Sunday. The Italians are fighting for a place in the final tournament in Angers, France.
Asiago opens the week
On Tuesday, Asiago will face HC Gherdeina in the only game of the day valgardena.it. Both teams face each other for the second time this season. Asiago narrowly won the first duel 3-2 after a shootout. The teams also met in preparation for the season – back then, Val Gardena won 2-1. The current form clearly speaks in favor of seventh-placed Asiago, which has won three of its last five games, while ninth-placed Val Gardena has only won one of the last six matches. Val Gardena has only been successful away from home once this season, while Asiago has won three of its six home games.
Top game on Wednesday: Bregenzerwald welcomes Zell am See
EC Bregenzerwald is currently the hottest team in the Alps Hockey League with six wins in a row. On Sunday, Vorarlberg won 3-2 in Cortina after a shootout and climbed to fourth place in the table – just ahead of defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären, who have one point less. The Pinzgauers celebrated a 4-2 win in Vipiteno on Sunday, their first win after two defeats in a row. In the first duel of the season with Bregenzerwald, the Eisbären were defeated 1:3 at home – their first defeat against Vorarlberg since November 29, 2023 after nine wins in a row.
Thursday: Kitzbühel against struggling Vipiteno
There are three games on the program on Thursday. Among others, third-placed Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel will face twelfth-placed Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. While Kitzbühel has won five of the last six games, Vipiteno has been waiting for a win for six games. Last week, the South Tyroleans suffered defeats against Bregenzerwald (1:3) and Zell am See (2:4), while Kitzbühel narrowly won 3:2 in Val Gardena. The Adler have not lost a point at home so far, while Vipiteno has won two of its seven away games. This season the teams will meet for the first time. Last season they dueled in the quarter-finals – back then the Broncos clearly won 4-0.
Sisak wants to get back on the road to success towards the bottom
Last weekend, Sisak suffered two defeats and missed out on reaching the top of the table. With 32 points, the Croatians are level on points with league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors, but are in second place due to a poorer goal difference. The next chance to regain the top is on Thursday in the home game against bottom team Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. The South Tyroleans only have seven points and have so far only won two of their 13 games this season. In the first meeting, Unterland clearly lost 5-0 at home.
Asiago meets Ritten
In the third Thursday game, HC Migross Asiago welcomes Rittner Buam SkyAlps. For Asiago it is the second game in three days, while Ritten is back in action for the first time since November 1st (3:5 against Bregenzerwald). It was one of four defeats in a row for the South Tyroleans, who dropped to sixth place in the table. In the first duel of the season, Ritten clearly won 5-1 at home. The Buam also celebrated a 4-3 home win in pre-season preparation.
Friday: Jesenice welcomes Merano
In the only Friday game, HDD Jesenice meets HC Meran/o Pircher. While the Slovenians were without a game last week, Meran celebrated a surprisingly clear 4-0 home win against Sisak. The South Tyroleans previously won 5-4 after a shootout in Zell am See. Meran is currently in tenth place in the table, Jesenice is two points behind in eleventh place. Last year’s finalists lost their last game in Cortina 1:4 – one of three defeats in the last five games. In the first duel of the season, Jesenice had to admit defeat 1:3 in Meran.
Cortina in Continental Cup action
From Friday to Sunday, SG Cortina, a team from the Alps Hockey League, will be in action in the Continental Cup. The Italians are fighting for a place in the final tournament in Angers, France. There they will face hosts Angers Ducs, HK Mogo (LAT) and ACS Gyergyoi HK (ROU). Cortina plays one game against each opponent. If they finish the group in one of the top two places, they will move on to the final tournament, which will be held in Nottingham (GBR) from January 14th to 17th.
