The long-time captain of the
HC Bolzano,
Daniel Frankhas improved after the disappointing quarter-final exit in the
ICE Hockey League
He spoke in detail for the first time to “Sportnews” – and made one thing clear: quitting is not an option for him at the moment.
Around three weeks after the bitter end of the season, the 32-year-old is self-critical but also combative. “I won’t leave like that,” Frank firmly emphasizes to “Sportnews”. Despite his personally weakest season, his ambition remains unbroken. He wants to attack again and have a strong season – preferably in the jersey of his favorite club from Bolzano.
Self-criticism instead of excuses
Frank doesn’t mince his words when he looks back on the messed up season. Points and performance were clearly below our own expectations. “I never really got my footing,” he admits openly. At the same time, he suggests that the dwindling trust from the coaching staff and environment also played a role – especially in difficult phases when his line hardly got any more ice time.
Nevertheless, he makes it clear: the responsibility does not only lie with coaches or club management. “Especially us players on the ice made mistakes,” said the captain.
Between fan favorite and criticism
As a long-time top performer, Frank is particularly in the public eye. The sometimes harsh criticism – especially on social media – has not left him unscathed. While he has learned to deal with sporting criticism, he draws a clear line when it comes to personal attacks, especially when family and relatives are affected.
Looking forward – with young players
Frank would like to have a clear sporting direction for the future. In addition to a return to defensive stability, he primarily calls for more courage when dealing with young players. Both local talent and hungry Legionnaires should be given more opportunities to build a strong team in the long term.
Future open – heart in Bolzano
It is still unclear whether he will also play for the HCB next season. The decision is not his alone, emphasizes Frank. But his words leave no doubt: he sees his future – if possible – still in Bolzano.
