AlpsHL preview: The top duel takes place in Kitzbühel!

There are five games on the program in the Alps Hockey League on Thursday. Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel’s six-game winning streak against league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors is being put to the test. In Croatia there will also be a duel between two top 5 teams: KHL Sisak against HC Migross Asiago. The champions EK Zeller Eisbären are visiting Cortina, while Meran hosts EC Bregenzerwald in the only Friday game.

Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel – Red Bull Hockey Juniors

Kitzbühel recently celebrated six wins in a row, most recently the Adler won away against Unterland. The Tyroleans are in third place, eight points behind leaders Salzburg – but with three games fewer. The Juniors regained first place on Tuesday with a 2-1 overtime win against Cortina and have the best offense in the league with 80 goals from 20 games. Kitzbühel, on the other hand, has the strongest defense with only 38 goals conceded from 17 games. Salzburg’s Maxim Eliseev leads the top scorers list with 19 goals, while KEC striker Yoan Loshing (15 goals) is fourth. The Juniors narrowly won the first duel of the season, but the last three games in Kitzbühel went to the Adler.

KHL Sisak – HC Migross Asiago

Another top game is taking place in Croatia: KHL Sisak has won eight of its last ten matches and is in second place in the table. Fifth-placed Asiago has scored points in its last eight games and has won five of them. Sisak also won the last five home games. Asiago celebrated four wins in nine away games and is therefore in the middle of the away table. Ryan Valentini leads the league in scoring with 36 points. Sisak won the first duel of the season 5:4 away.

SG Cortina Hafro – EK The Zeller Eisbären

The champions from Zell am See are also in strong form: The Pinzgauers have won their last five games, most recently 7-4 against league leaders Salzburg. Now Cortina is an opponent who has recently lost twice in a row – on Tuesday with 1:2 after extra time in Salzburg. It was the seventh away defeat in a row. The first duel of the season went 3-1 to the fourth-placed Eisbären.

Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan – Hockey Unterland Cavaliers

Thanks to two successes, Vipiteno climbed to ninth place, the gap to the top five is nine points. Bottom side Unterland have only won one of their last seven games, but have collected six of their nine points away from home. The Broncos won the last three direct duels – including the first meeting of the season.

HC Gherdeina valgardena.it – HDD Jesenice

After nine defeats from the last ten games, Val Gardena is in crisis and is second to last in the table. The debut under interim coach Elmar Parth was also unsuccessful with a defeat against Vipiteno. Jesenice ended its negative streak at the weekend with an overtime win in Asiago and is one point ahead of Val Gardena in tenth place. The former AHL champion has scored four points from ten away games so far. The Slovenians won the last four direct duels – including the first game of the season 5-1.

HC Meran/o Pircher – EC Bregenzerwald

Meran and Bregenzerwald meet in the only Friday game. Both teams want to get back to winning ways. The South Tyroleans lost four games in a row and are in eleventh place, while the ECB is in sixth place after two defeats against Sisak – in the shootout and in overtime. With 15 points from ten away games, Vorarlberg is one of the best away teams in the league. Bregenzerwald won the first duel of the season 5-2.
