EC Red Bull Salzburg is playing the sixth and final game of the regular season in the Champions Hockey League today against Eisbären Berlin and wants to take the chance to qualify for the premier class playoffs with a win.
It couldn’t be more exciting. Before the last round of the CHL Regular Season, the Red Bulls are in 15th place in the table, the best 16 teams (of 24) qualify for the playoff round of 16. With a win against the Eisbären Berlin in regular time, the Red Bulls would have a very good chance, but would still depend on other results. The Eisbären Berlin also have a small chance of making it to the playoffs, as they occupy 21st place in the table with four points and could theoretically slip into the top 16 with seven points in the final tally. Every point counts!
At the same time, it is the duel between the German and the Austrian champions (and champion of the win2day ICE Hockey League), which always receives particular attention in the sporting historical context of both countries and now culminates in the deciding game for entry into the knockout phase of the premier class.
Fears for the Raffl brothers
The deployment of the Raffl brothers is still unclear. Thomas Raffl is in poor health, brother Mchael has twisted his knee. “I do believe that both will play. But we don’t know for sure yet,” said Coach Viveiros to the “Kronen Zeitung”.
Statement by Dennis Robertson
“We love playing against some of the best teams in Europe and are really excited. We’re expecting a quick game against the German champions. It’s a decider, but we’re preparing for it like we would any other game and trusting our routine. It’s more about making fewer mistakes in the game and getting off to a really good start. And we’re looking forward to our fans, that always gives us the extra energy.”
