HC Meran has reacted to the disappointing start to the season in the Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL) and strengthened its offensive with a new signing. Reid Stefanson will hunt for goals for the “Eagles” in the future.
The 28-year-old Canadian striker is moving to Meran as the current British champion, but can also look back on a short and not very successful interlude in the top Austrian league. Stefanson started his professional career in North America with the Maine Mariners in the ECHL, where he collected 76 points (32 goals, 44 assists) in 112 games and established himself as a top performer.
Short guest appearance in Vienna
In January 2024, the striker made the leap to Europe to join the Vienna Capitals in the ICE Hockey League (ICEHL). However, his involvement in Austria turned out to be difficult: Stefanson was not able to convince and only played 13 times for the Capitals before the Vienna adventure was over.
Championship title on the island
Stefanson’s journey continued to Great Britain, where he found a new start with the Nottingham Panthers. This step turned out to be the right one: the Canadian secured the national championship title with the Panthers. Despite this success, there was no further employment.
The striker is now moving to the crisis-hit HC Meran, where he will become an important offensive cornerstone.
