The Canadian NHL professional
Arber Xhekaj apparently saved a man’s life by acting quickly in Montreal. The defender of the
Montreal Canadiens
witnessed a dramatic incident at the Lachine Canal on Monday.
Direct witness
The 25-year-old was walking near the canal with his brother Florian Xhekaj when a man jumped into the water and apparently tried to take his own life. Several people observed the scene – but Xhekaj reacted immediately.
Acted quickly
Instead of rashly jumping into the water and putting himself in danger, the NHL star immediately called 911 and then supported the police and rescue workers on site. According to reports, the man was eventually rescued and survived the incident.
Particularly noteworthy: Xhekaj did not make the action public and did not seek any attention. The story only became known later through insiders. The defender is now being celebrated on social media for his level-headed and courageous behavior.
