Almost complete: The Black Wings Linz finally want to take points from the KAC!

The Steinbach Black Wings will face the record champions from Klagenfurt for the third time this season today. The league leaders travel to Linz with a lot of self-confidence, but the Upper Austrians want to score points again in front of their home crowd.

The Steinbach Black Wings had to admit defeat 3-1 against the Pustertal Wölfe the day before yesterday. In this phase, however, it’s time to tick things off and move on. The next big task is already waiting for the people of Stahlstadt today. For the third time this season they will face the record champions from Klagenfurt. Head coach Kirk Furey’s team currently leads the win2day ICE Hockey League table with 79 points.

The Red Jackets only had to leave the ice as losers eleven times, and five of these defeats came in overtime. The Klagenfurt team has impressed this season with consistent performances and enormous offensive power. With 129 goals, they have the second most dangerous offense in the league behind Laibach. But the KAC also shows defensively why it is at the top of the table: with only 87 goals conceded, the Red Jackets are in the top 3 in this statistic. The record champions also travel to the Lower Donaulände with a four-game winning streak. Yesterday they had to go into overtime against Hydro Fehervar, but won the game with a goal from Jan Mursak. When it comes to the power play, both teams are close together.

While the red jackets have an efficiency of 19.23%, the Stahlstadters are just against that with 22.32%. Another strength of the Klagenfurt team is their penalty killing: with a rate of 81.74%, they regularly manage to survive outnumbered situations without conceding a goal. By far the biggest offensive threat comes from Mathias From. The Dane is impressive in his second season with the record champions with 45 scorer points so far (22 goals, 23 assists). In goal, the KAC mostly relies on Sebastian Dahm, who provides reliable support with a catch rate of 91.74%. Back-up goalie Florian Vorauer also shone in his twelve games so far with a strong catch rate of 93.39%. In the two duels of the season so far, the Klagenfurt team were able to hold their own against the Linz team twice. At home, Brian Lebler and Co. had to narrowly admit defeat 2:3, in Klagenfurt the KAC prevailed a little more clearly with 5:3.

Locker room update

The Steinbach Black Wings got off to a perfect start against Pustertal the day before yesterday and took the lead in the second minute. In the second section, however, the Wolves fought back and made the final score 3-1 with an empty net goal. Nevertheless, head coach Philipp Lukas’ team held up well until the end. With a goal shooting ratio of 21:22, the Stahlstadters were in no way inferior to the Wolves. Although the Upper Austrians were successful in the power play thanks to Shawn St-Amant’s goal, they acted too inconsistently in the other majority situations. For today’s game against Klagenfurt, the Stahlstadters will still have to do without Travis Barron, who has to take a break due to illness. That’s why Philipp Lukas is sending the same line-up as against the Wolves into the fight against the record champions.
