Hydro Fehervar AV19 completes the semifinals of the ICEHL playoffs. The Hungarians beat EC-KAC 3-0 in the sixth game of the quarter-final series, thus ending the record champions’ season.
After two wins in a row, Fehérvár competed with great confidence. In a largely balanced first third, the home team repeatedly set offensive accents, but the KAC also found opportunities. Shortly before the first break, the guests missed the biggest opportunity of the section – the game went into the locker room goalless.
After 25 minutes, Thimo Nickl had to go to the penalty box (2+2 minutes), and Fehérvár promptly took advantage of the power play: captain Csanád Erdély deflected a shot from Messner to make it 1-0. Klagenfurt, on the other hand, was unlucky with shots from the pole in its first majority. Shortly before the end of the third, KAC goalie Sebastian Dahm prevented the second goal from being conceded with a strong save.
The Hungarians started the final period with a lot of energy. They seemed determined and didn’t let anything go defensively. When the guests had few chances, goalkeeper Rasmus Reijola, who celebrated his fourth shutout of the season, was always there. After impressive preparatory work from Erdély, János Hári increased the score to 2-0 in the 56th minute. Trever Cheek finally made the final decision with an empty net hit.
