The ice skating rink in Mödling, Lower Austria, is about to close. This would not only mean the end for the local UEC Mödling, partner club of the Vienna Capitals as part of the Pho3nix Vienna Capitals Youth Foundation, but would also deal a serious blow to the entire ice sport in the eastern region. This deprives thousands of children and young people of the opportunity to exercise. In order to draw further attention to the issue around which a citizens’ movement has formed that wants to prevent a closure, the Vienna Capitals professional team will visit the Mödling ice skating rink on February 11th from 4:30 p.m. and hold a show training session.
With the meeting in Mödling, the ice hockey figurehead of the eastern region would like to make it clear that ice sports in general are an important opportunity for exercise in the winter months for young and old. The commitment of the Pho3nix Vienna Capitals Youth Foundation proves that the Capitals care about promoting young ice hockey talent throughout the region. The UEC Mödling is part of this initiative as a partner association. After the show training, the UEC youngsters go on the ice with the professionals from the Vienna Capitals. The Caps cracks will also be available for photos and autographs. Fans and media representatives are cordially invited to visit the Vienna Capitals in Mödling next Wednesday.
Statement Lukas Garhofer, Managing Director of Vienna Capitals
“As the flagship club of the eastern region, the development of ice hockey in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland is particularly important to us. We know the people responsible at UEC Mödling through their collaboration within the Pho3nix Vienna Capitals Youth Foundation. It would not only be a shame for them if the work they put their heart and soul into were ended by the closure of the ice skating rink. A lack of infrastructure is a problem that affects all ice sports in the eastern region. We hope that our visit will take place next week underlines how important every single ice surface is in our region and how grateful we are to clubs like UEC Mödling and the many volunteer supervisors who are committed to the sport of ice hockey.”
Statement Christoph Seemann-Hamm, President of the UEC Mödling
“As President of the UEC Mödling, I would like to thank the Vienna Capitals on behalf of all members. With their commitment to doing a show training in the Mödling city pool and a training with the young children of the UEC Mödling, they are sending a very strong signal of solidarity. Ice hockey connects across generations and borders! With this we as UEC Mödling want to make it clear how important ice sports are in Mödling. We are committed to maintaining the ice skating rink with all our strength until a long-term There is a solution in the district.”
