Bitter: The KAC not only loses the top game but also the top scorer!

The Red Jackets were defeated 3-4 by EC Salzburg in the top game of the win2day ICE Hockey League on Sunday and remained without a point in a home game for the first time since September 26th. They also lost top scorer Mathias From.

During Ali Wukovits’ comeback, Red Bull Salzburg secured their playoff ticket with a 4-3 win and everyone in the Mozartstadt camp was correspondingly happy afterwards: “It’s really not easy to play in Klagenfurt. I’m proud of the players for how they performed together today. From defense to offense, everyone showed a strong performance. We didn’t panic at the beginning after the quick change of lead and after that we hardly allowed any good chances for a long time. The strong defense was at the end decisive for the victory,” said head coach Manny Viveiros.

Game and top scorer lost

Naturally, people in the Klagenfurt camp were not very happy. The Red Jackets not only lost the duel and with it the chance to increase the gap in the table to their pursuers, but also top scorer Mathias From. The Dane left midway through the second period with a lower-body injury and we’ll likely be out for the Red Jackets in the near future. There is no statement from the KAC yet.

Assistant coach David Fsicher analyzed the game afterwards as follows: “A wild start to the game, the first third was exceptional. We were a bit sloppy, had mistakes in our positional play and needed time to find stability. In the second half, Salzburg had a few long changes in our zone, but we didn’t really give up many scoring chances, I think there were only around ten in the entire game. In the last half you could see that we found our game, before that we were partly unsure about that. There are a few in our team Older players who have supported us over the last few weeks and played great, as well as many young players who were not an issue for professional ice hockey this year. They filled the gaps caused by injuries and did a good job. But after such intense phases, there are also moments when you get a little tired mentally and spiritually, as well as players returning to the lineup who have to find themselves and their game again. That will certainly be the issue for us for the next three months of the season Finding chemistry in a team that is restructuring itself through recoveries or new additions. We wanted to avoid today’s defeat, no question, no one in the dressing room is happy, but tomorrow we will also find that we still have our fate completely in our own hands. We will rest on Monday and then prepare for Wednesday. We still have a lot of home games in this regular season and we want to take what we need from them to achieve a positive result.
