Comeback: VSV champion goalie Gert Prohaska is back in goal!

Ice hockey legend Gert Prohaska makes a surprising return to goal at the age of 49. The last VSV champion goalie, who led Villach to the title in 2006, will play his first competitive game as a goalie for the Lendhafen Seelöwen on Friday since retiring in 2011.

“I actually never wanted to play in goal again,” says Prohaska to the “Kleine Zeitung”, who was recently only active as an outfield player. At the club’s request, he is now stepping in once in the second final game of the Carinthian lower league. “It should stay this one time,” he emphasizes with a wink.

After the first training session, the body reported – “back pain and adductor problems” – but Prohaska is still optimistic: “I’m excited to see how things go after all these years.” After the 5:3 in the first final game, the Sea Lions already have the match puck.
