With full concentration, the Austrian national ice hockey team is now entering the preparation phase for the World Championship, which begins for the ÖEHV selection in exactly one month. You could also get reinforcements from North America.
Austria’s first group game at the World Cup in Switzerland will take place on May 16th, then the ÖEHV selection will duel with Great Britain. Team boss Roger Bader and his team have a total of seven games on the program until May 26th – the highlights probably being the “eternal duel” with neighbors Germany on May 23rd, as well as the final group game against the USA, three days later. Austria also has to deal with the hosts.
Today the national team is testing against Austria in Feldkirch, and next week the next two tests against the Czech Republic are on the agenda. The ÖEHV is in the intensive preparation phase for the title fights.
Reinforcements from overseas?
Marco Kasper and the Detroit Red Wings ended the season tonight with a 1:8 win against Florida. Marco Rossi and the Vancouver Canucks will have game #82 of the season next night, which will be at the Edmonton Oilers. A decision as to whether the two cracks will strengthen the national team is still pending. “They are still having their end-of-season discussions. Both have signaled that they want to come. But Marco Rossi had two injuries this season. Therefore, it is not certain whether Vancouver will give clearance for the World Cup,” team boss Roger Bader told the “courier“.
Playoffs are just around the corner
The two Vorarlbergers David Reinbacher and Vinzenz Rohrer are not an issue. The second named will start training for the AHL team Laval Rocket tomorrow. The debut in North American professional ice hockey should not be long in coming. Both Laval and the Montreal Canadiens have qualified for the playoffs this year, so extremely intense games await the two Austro cracks, but they will probably miss the World Cup as a result.
Gregor Biber will still join the team, the appearances of Benjamin Baumgartner, who is back on the ice after his injury, and that of Oliver Achermann are currently still questionable.
