The German ice hockey scene is mourning the loss of one of its defining personalities: Jiri Ehrenberger, long-time coach and sports director, has died at the age of 70. This was announced by Deggendorfer EC, where Ehrenberger worked until the end of last season.
The Czech native leaves behind an impressive life’s work in German ice hockey. In the PENNY DEL, Ehrenberger worked, among other things, as an assistant coach for the Nuremberg Ice Tigers and the Krefeld Pinguins. In the 2006/07 season he took over the position of head coach at the Rhinelanders and was voted “Coach of the Year” in his first year.
He then successfully continued his career as a manager. Under his leadership, ERC Ingolstadt won the German championship in 2014 – a highlight in Ehrenberger’s career that made him an icon of German ice hockey.
