The fans in Bolzano saw eleven goals and a successful debut from new coach Doug Shedden. Linz turned a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 lead with two goals shortly before the first break. However, the home team dominated in the middle period, turned the game around with three goals and further extended their lead in the final period. Brad McClure scored a brace and made the preliminary decision in the 48th minute. In the end, Bolzano deservedly won 7:4.
