Austria’s national ice hockey team will have to do without a key player at the upcoming World Championships in Zurich:
Marco Kasper is out due to injury. The NHL legionnaire is struggling with knee problems – and is now clearly putting his health above the big event.
“With crutches and splints”: diagnosis brings clarity
Kasper had been struggling with knee problems for a long time, but the full extent only became apparent after an MRI scan. The consequences are clearly noticeable, as he announced to the ÖEHV: “I have to walk with crutches at the moment and have a splint on my knee.”
Instead of preparing for the World Cup with the national team, rehabilitation is now on the agenda for the 22-year-old.
Painful renunciation of the World Cup
The cancellation hits Kasper hard, as he openly admits: “I would have loved to have been at the World Cup. It always makes me really proud to play for Austria.” Despite the disappointment, he is looking forward and is committed to a full recovery: “But I have to make sure my knee gets better so that I can get started again.”
Focus on staying in the league
Even without him, Kasper believes the Austrian team can put in a solid performance – but sets his goal clearly: “Staying in the league is the most important thing.” As is well known, next to him is also missing
Marco Rossi.
