What a start! HK Olimpija Ljubljana has never presented itself as strong as this year in the Ice Hockey League. After four match days, the Slovenes are 11 points and thus at the top of the table.
Victories & points
Three clear victories and an overtime success against the Graz99ers: With this balance, Olimpija surpasses all the starts of the season so far. Only the extra point against Graz remained, but otherwise the dragons marched unstoppably through the league.
Strong offensive
The offensive fireworks are historical: 25 goals scored in four games-that means more than 6 goals per game. No other team is currently as accurate as the Slovenes. At the same time, the defensive also shows enormous stability: the defenders and goalies only allowed 7 goals in four games.
Key to success
The offensive is led by Nicolai Meyer, who already demonstrated his scorer potential at the Vienna Capitals and Red Bull Salzburg and is now shining as a reliable top scorer in Laibach. On the defensive, TJ Brennan ensures stability and risk of scoring from the blue line. The scaffolding is supplemented by veterans like Zach Boychuk and Robert Sabolic, which in turn give decisive impulses with their experience. In addition, young talents such as Bine Masic and Marcel Mahkovec are for the foreground, so that the offensive game is also enriched with speed and creativity.
Comparison to earlier
In recent years, Olimpija has struggled to keep the connection to the top teams. Such a dominant start to the season with over six goals per game has so far been unimaginable, but now the dragons prove that they can not only keep up in the league, but can attack the tip.
outlook
The next hardship tests are already waiting: At the weekend it goes against HC Innsbruck, followed by the duel with Fehérvár AV19. If these tasks are also mastered, the dream start could finally achieve historical dimensions.
