ÖEHV women lose second game at the “Wörthersee Trophy”

Even though Austria had a clear increase in chances overall, Denmark presented itself more efficiently in the second group game at the Wörthersee Trophy in Klagenfurt. The Scandinavians made it 2-0 in the middle third before Theresa Schafzahl scored the next goal in the 36th minute. In the final third they pushed for an equalizer, but in the end it was in vain. The placement game will follow on Sunday in the Sportkrone live stream, the opponent is still open.

“In the first third we couldn’t quite keep up with Denmark and didn’t exploit our potential either. That was much better in the second third. We took over more and more command, found good chances, but the Danes scored. We had good phases, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough in the end,” summed up head coach Alexander Bröms.

The ÖEHV team recorded 34:19 shots on goal, but too few of them were compelling. That made Denmark better overall, played until they had a compelling chance and did so successfully.

In the middle third, Selma Luggin had to reach behind her for the first time in the 29th minute. Austria played outnumbered after a penalty against Annika Fazokas, which Julie Oksbjerg used to give Denmark the lead. Six minutes later Silke Glud increased the score to 2-0.

But Theresa Schafzahl was there shortly afterwards and made the fans and the bench celebrate. After an assist from Anna Meixner, she shortened the score to 1:2. Austria looked for its chances in the final third, repeatedly testing Denmark’s Caroline Bjergstad, but she didn’t allow anything more.

The placement game follows for Austria on Sunday, the opponent is still pending.
