EC Red Bull Salzburg had to admit defeat 2:5 at home against the Moser Medical Graz99ers in the home game of the win2day ICE Hockey League, with the last two goals conceded coming via empty net.
The Red Bulls started really strong and were also leading after Thomas Raffl’s goal, but then the guests improved, turned the game in their favor and then only allowed few chances with a compact defense. Lucas Thaler’s equalizer came at the right time, but shortly afterwards the Graz team went ahead again and secured their second win of the season against the Red Bulls with two more Empty Net goals.
Statement Niki Kraus: “We actually spent a lot of time in attack. But they were very compact in front of the goal and we had problems getting the follow-up shots, even when we put the shots on goal. We were also often a step too late in the duels and so we simply had a hard time. We also played into their hands with our own mistakes and they did a lot with little.”
Statement from Manny Viveiros to “SN”: “We were tired today, our legs were no longer fresh. It was our seventh game in 15 days. But we didn’t play well either, 23 shots are far too few for us. But I have to pay Graz a compliment, they defended very well,”
