The Moser Medical Graz99ers clearly won the first final game against HC Falkensteiner Pustertal 5-1. Both Lukas Haudum and Kevin Roy recorded three scorer points each.
The Moser Medical Graz99ers got off to a lively start in the first final game and underlined their ambitions to become champions right from the start. HCP goalie Eddie Pasquale was able to thwart Nick Bailen’s first big chance. In the ninth minute, however, he had to admit defeat for the first time: After a long pass from the recovered Korbinian Holzer, Lukas Haudum surprised Pasquale from the left with a shot into the short corner to make it 1-0. After falling behind, Pustertal had one or two moments thanks to their switching game, but were unsuccessful against a strong Nicolas Wieser. The Styrians were different, as they repeatedly created opportunities through rebounds. So did Josh Currie in the 17th minute, who made it 2-0 after a shot from Kevin Roy.
In the second section, the guests from Pustertal came into the encounter much better. In the 25th minute, Austin Rueschhoff scored the 1-2 goal after a remarkable pass from Cole Bardreau – who had positioned himself in front of Nicolas Wieser. Inspired by the goal, the Wolves started a phase of pressure and in this phase presented themselves as Graz’s equal final opponents. However, they remained mentally strong and Frank Hora made it 3-1 in the power play in the 34th minute.
The Graz team didn’t let anything go wrong in the final section. After just 35 seconds played, Lukas Haudum hammered a one-timer into the net to make it 4-1. Things continued in the same vein: In the 44th minute, Bailen scored with a lot of calm and patience to make it 5-1. The Styrians didn’t let HC Falkensteiner Pustertal get back into the match and achieved a secure 5-1 win and thus a 1-0 series lead in the finals. Lukas Haudum scored a brace. Game #2 of the final series will take place on Thursday in Bruneck/Pustertal.
