ÖEHV: Austria celebrates success over Hungary – tomorrow the hosts are waiting!

The Austrian national ice hockey team won the first game at the three-nation tournament in Oslo, Norway. The ÖEHV selection beat Hungary 4-1. Tomorrow we face hosts Norway.

Five debutants, average age 24.8 years – once again head coach Roger Bader’s courage to throw young players into the deep end bore fruit. In a game characterized by many penalties in the first 40 minutes, Austria presented itself aggressively in the penalty killing. Even though our neighbors were able to use their second power play in the 6th minute to take a 1-0 lead, they barely allowed their outnumbered opponent to get a shot on goal.

Austria gradually took control of the game and after an ideal assist from Vinzenz Rohrer, Benjamin Nissner scored the deserved equalizer in his national team comeback in the 17th minute.

Conversely, the two played in the power play in the middle third. Nissner saw Rohrer standing free and served his colleague, who made the unstoppable shot to make it 2-1. Back from the second break, Hungary appeared more aggressive again. Austria survived this phase and continued to create opportunities. And Johannes Neumann, who captained the U20 national team at the World Cup Division IA in December, used one of them with a powerful shot into the right corner to make it 3-1.

In the final phase, Hungary pulled the goalkeeper, which meant another debutant could get on the scoresheet. Lenz Moosbrugger scored into the empty goal to make the final score 4-1.
