No fewer than 15 goals were scored in the duel between HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie and EC-KAC. The Tyroleans won 9:6 in front of their home crowd.
HC TIWAG Innsbruck made a strong statement against EC-KAC – even though Klagenfurt got off to a furious start: the guests were leading 2-0 before the first minute of the game was over. In the seventh minute the KAC even made it 3-0 before the Haie woke up and reduced the score to 2-3 in the starting third. But that wasn’t the end either: the KAC scored again and went into the first break with a 4-2 lead. However, Innsbruck then delivered an impressive middle period and a strong start to the final third, scoring five unanswered goals and turning the game around. The KAC, clearly superior in the last 15 minutes, temporarily reduced the lead to 6:7, but had to admit defeat 6:9 after empty net hits. Benjamin Corbeil and Mat Wilkins each scored twice.
