Former NHL defender Thomas Pöck turned his back on professional ice hockey a few years ago and is now alive a quieter life in the United States.
Career end 2017
After last season at the Graz 99ers, Pöck officially ended his active career in 2017. Previously, he had been deployed for the New York Rangers and New York Islanders in the NHL and in Europe.
Life in the USA
Today the 43-year-old lives with his wife Arlene and the three children Nick (14), Natalie (12) and Nolan (10) in Wilmington near Boston. Pöck is now working in the insurance industry.
Distance to ice hockey
Although Pöck was one of the most famous Austrian ice hockey players at a young age, he has largely distanced himself from sport. “I only watch more than a fan, I have rather distanced myself from ice hockey,” he recently said in an interview with the “Kronen Zeitung” during a visit to the home in Carinthia.
Nevertheless, he occasionally accompanies his eldest son on the ice – but not as an ambitious coach, but as a supportive father: “I am only concerned with having fun.”
