Anna Meixner ended the season in the Pro Women’s Hockey League with the Vancouver Goldeneyes with a 4-3 home win, but missed participation in the play-offs. This ended an eventful season for the Salzburg player, which was marked by an unexpected trade within the league.
During the season, the 31-year-old moved from Ottawa to Vancouver – a move that was initially emotional, but in retrospect positive. “It didn’t take me long to realize that this was probably the best thing that could have happened to me,” the Zell native told the “Crown newspaper“.
The national team captain looks back on turbulent months: “The season was an ups and down of emotions for me. The trade was definitely very unexpected, so it was very emotional to leave Ottawa.” In total, Meixner was on the ice in 30 PWHL games this year and was able to collect three goals and just as many assists.
What her sporting future looks like is currently unclear. “My future is pretty uncertain,” says Meixner. Both staying in North America and returning to Europe are considered possible options. Before moving to North America – Meixner took the step overseas in the summer of 2024 – she stormed in the top Swedish league for four years and was even named league MVP there in 2022/23.
