The playoffs are starting now for VSV!

Today there is a duel in Linz between the Steinbach Black Wings Linz and the EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV. Two clubs that are only separated by one point in the table. In the race for the top 10, every point counts.

For the third time today it’s Linz against Villach: the first duel went to the Adler 8:3, game 2 went to the Stahlstädter 5:4. There should be a lot of excitement in today’s clash. The current table situation also plays its part.

Close race for the top 10

VSV is currently in seventh place in the table with 42 points from 31 games. The top 6 seems to be gone, because Bruneck, currently in sixth place, is already 15 points ahead. But things are extremely tight behind the Villach team. The Vienna Capitals and Fehervar AV19 also have 42 points, Linz and Ferencvaros Budapest have 41. This means that no fewer than five (!) clubs are within just one point.

VSV top goal getter Adam Helewka knows that we have to step up now: “Of course we have the table in the back of our minds. The play-offs start now! If we want to get there, we have to step up – every game is a knockout game for us,” said the Canadian to the “Crown newspaper“. The 30-year-old scored 16 times in 29 games and is in second place in the VSV’s internal scoring rankings with 31 points. First place goes to Nikita Scherbak, who has collected 35 points so far.

Head coach Pierre Allard’s team has been warned by the Black Wings: “They went through a similar low as we are going through now – back then it was easier to score against them. It’s going to be tight,” said Helewka. After the game in Upper Austria, the Draustadt team continues against the Vienna Capitals, the KAC, Bozen and Salzburg. Not a really easy program.
