The EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV is pleased to announce the contract extension of goalkeeper René Swette. The 37-year-old Austrian will remain with the Eagles (as previously suspected) and is entering his fifth season in the VSV uniform.
For Swette, this is already his second phase at the club: he first played as a substitute for the blue-whites in the 2016/17 season and made two appearances back then. After further positions in Innsbruck, Lustenau, with the Black Wings Linz and briefly with the Dresdner Eislöwen, he returned to the “Adlerhorst” for the 2023/24 season. Since then he has been in the VSV goal again.
Since his return, Swette has played a total of 15 games for the blue-whites, winning seven of them. Once he was substituted on during the game in the playoffs.
Into the 18th season
For the experienced goalkeeper, the coming season will be his 18th season in the top Austrian league. In his career he was also able to celebrate two championship titles with the EC-KAC.
Swette also impressed as a reliable backup last season. In seven appearances he showed solid performances and had a catch rate of 90.2 percent – a strong figure for a goalkeeper in this role. He also saved more than four additional goals compared to the expected goals conceded, thereby impressively demonstrating his quality.
Goalkeeper duo stands
The veteran has now signed a new contract with VSV and will therefore continue to act as a backup behind regular goalkeeper Joe Cannata in the coming season.
