NHL: Detroit and Marco Kasper’s playoff dreams are over!

The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs will also take place this year without the participation of the Detroit Red Wings. After last night’s bitter home defeat, the Americans are officially out of the running for the remaining tickets.

Before the encounter with the New Jersey Devils, the Red Wings had 91 points with three games left to play. The duel with the devils from Newark was therefore important. In front of their home crowd, the Wings suffered a 3:5 defeat and officially said goodbye to the race for the playoffs.

Unserie stops

This means that the “postseason” of the best league in the world will take place for the tenth time in a row without the participation of the traditional franchise from Michigan. Detroit has won the Stanley Cup eleven times so far – only Montreal has more titles with a total of 24 titles – but in recent years they have been far from the successes of past times.

The last time they took part in the playoffs was in 2015/16, but back then the adventure ended in the conference quarterfinals. They lost 1:4 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The last title was won in 2007/08.

Away trip at the end of the season

The Wings now have two away games left to end the season. The season comes to an end with a trip to Florida – Monday in Tampa, Wednesday in Sunrise. Marco Kasper played 79 of the 80 games played so far, but was not really able to continue the good 2024/25 season. The Austro crack currently has 18 scorer points. The previous season he finished with more than twice as much.

It is still unclear whether the 22-year-old striker will now travel to the national team due to missing the playoffs.
