Benjamin Baumgartner has been on the ice in one of the best European leagues for many years and delivers top performances there. At the moment, the Salzburger is doomed to watch – he can hardly wait for the comeback.
The 25-year-old from Pinzgau played his last league game in mid-November, in SC Bern’s 4-3 overtime victory over Langnau. There, Baumgartner showed off a great performance with two goals and an assist. But a training injury slowed down the legionnaire: “This is certainly the most serious injury and longest downtime I have had so far,” Baumgartner told the “Crown newspaper“.
The national team player is currently in his fourth season for the traditional club from the Swiss capital – and he feels comfortable there and also has a valid contract until the end of the 2027/28 season. Being away from the game for so long was a challenge: “It was very hard because you were away from the team. I actually just spent the last few weeks with rehab and advanced training.” But there is light at the end of the tunnel, because Baumgartner is back in training and could celebrate his comeback on Friday against Rapperswil-Jona: “I’m really looking forward to finally being there again.”
Sporting things are rather mixed for SC Bern, because after 41 match days they are only in 10th place with 53 points. The gap to their pursuers in 11th and 12th place is only two and three points respectively.
Baumgartner is also looking a bit towards the World Cup, which will take place in Switzerland in May: “It will be really cool, of course I definitely want to be there.” If he is fit, then there is no doubt that the striker will be in Roger Bader’s squad.
