On Thursday there will be important position duels in the Alps Hockey League – mostly between teams that are close together in the table. Above all, the fight for the top 5 places is heating up. While the Zeller Eisbären and Asiago Hockey want to defend their direct playoff positions, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps and SG Cortina are launching new attacks.
HDD Jesenice – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan
Jesenice welcomes the Wipptal Broncos to a duel between their table neighbors. Both teams are currently tied on points in eleventh and twelfth place. The winner remains within striking distance of the middle of the table. The Slovenians are in slightly better form: While the Broncos were unable to win any of their last eight games, Jesenice celebrated at least two wins in the last five games – each after a shootout. One of them came about three weeks ago in the first duel of the season between both teams.
EK The Zeller Eisbären – Rittner Buam SkyAlps
The table constellation is also tight between the Zeller Eisbären and the Rittner Buam SkyAlps – with advantages for Salzburg, who are five points ahead of Ritten and have played two fewer games. For the Rittner Buam it is crucial to score points against top 5 teams in order to achieve direct playoff qualification. However, a win against a team ahead of them was already 1.5 months ago (4:3 against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors on October 2nd). The Eisbären, on the other hand, have recently won three times in a row and are in fourth place. It is the first duel of the season between the two teams.
Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – HC Gherdeina valgardena.it
The Unterland Cavaliers host HC Gherdeina – both teams urgently need points. While the Cavaliers are clearly behind as bottom of the table, Gherdeina is in tenth place, but only just behind midfield. Both teams have recently suffered series of defeats: Gherdeina has remained without a point in the last four games, the Cavaliers have already played five times in a row.
SG Cortina Hafro – HC Migross Asiago
Asiago Hockey has been working its way up to the direct playoff places in recent weeks, but recently suffered a shootout defeat against Zell after four wins in a row. The yellow-reds want to consolidate their place in the top 5 against Cortina. Cortina is in eighth place, seven points behind the direct playoff positions. With a home win the hosts would be back in the race. Asiago won the first duel of the season in October 4-2.
HC Meran/o Pircher – Red Bull Hockey Juniors
League leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors visit HC Merano. The young Salzburg team recently celebrated three clear victories in a row. Merano, on the other hand, suffered two defeats and is currently in ninth place. However, the South Tyroleans pulled off a surprise in the first duel of the season: in September they defeated the Juniors 3-2 after overtime. Tommaso Traversa scored the game-winning goal.
