As usual, the February break for head coach Roger Bader is all about preparing for the World Cup preparations that start in April. The ÖEHV successful coach is pulling together a 24-man squad in Vienna on Monday. These include four debutants: Maximilian Preiml, Devin Steffler, Johannes Neumann and David Waschnig. The average age is 25.2 years.
“There is a direct path from the U20 to the senior national team. This can be seen this year in the fact that with Johannes Neumann, captain of the U20 national team, and David Waschnig, we have called up two players for the first time who have developed well in the U20 in recent years and have earned and earned this opportunity,” explains head coach Roger Bader.
The debutants and young players are led by veterans and top performers such as Bernd Wolf, Kilian Zündel, Ramon Schnetzer, Paul Huber, Benjamin Nissner, goalkeeper Florian Vorauer and the 21-year-old Vinzenz Rohrer.
Head Coach Roger Bader: “In February we actually start with a younger team every year, which also includes players with World Cup experience. The February break is the best opportunity for us coaches to screen before the playoffs start. The veterans will want to confirm their value for the national team and the candidates who, in our opinion, have a good season with their clubs can recommend themselves for the World Cup preparation.”
Two goals are traditionally pursued in February:
- Developing style of play and team Austria DNA
- Candidate screening for World Cup preparation
“That is our focus,” confirms Roger Bader, who is not yet thinking about results goals at the three-nation tournament in Oslo because the squads for Hungary and Norway are not yet known.
