Gameplay

It only took 20 seconds for Salzburg’s top line. The disc came dry via Peter Schneider and Thomas Raffl to Benjamin Nissner and the network from an acute angle (1st). The first good action of the Poland belonged to Filip Komorski, which ended dangerously from a similarly good position (4th). The Red Bulls continued to determine the action, a hammer shot from Lucas Thaler went to the Polish goalkeeper Tomas Fucik (8th). A power play gave the guests some air and offensive, but the Red Bulls consistently defended and then remained a step faster afterwards. In the final minute, the Salzburgers were close to the second goal in two dangerous rebounds in the power play, but after 20 minutes it remained in the well-deserved 1-0 lead of the home side.

In the second round, the guests were better involved. It went back and forth. However, the Red Bulls were even more oppressive and at the next overpowering game dangerous (from 8th), several opportunities were only thwarted by the strong Polish goalkeeper. Then the guests struck. In the power play, Joona Monto hit the half -open gate from an acute angle and made the equalization (32nd). The game was finally open. At a really high pace it went up and down with possibilities on both sides. In the strong final phase, Salzburg’s goalkeeper attacked Tolvanen fully, and reacted strongly with a 2 to 1 counter (19th). 1: 1 after 40 minutes.

The Red Bulls started in the final third with a real fireworks. In the first four minutes, the disc left the offensive zone only through unauthorized long shots of the Poles, Lucas Thaler hit the rod (45.). The guests also remembered twice with a number of good Salzburg one-timers from a short distance. The Red Bulls tirelessly pushed on, shot for shot went to the Polish goal, while the guests got air with occasional counterattacks. But it was only in the final minute that the captain redeemed his team and hit the gap exactly after a will output from half -distance. To add another one shortly afterwards and fix the 3-1 win of the Red Bulls with the goal in the orphaned goal. And that was more than deserved after the final third.

Statement Thomas Raffl

“It was expecting hard game. We were ready and also took the lead early. But then you saw how the Poles are defensively compactly and then it was a balanced game over long distances. But with the permanent pressure that we exerted in the end, it was a matter of time before the goal falls.”
