At the Steinbach Black Wings Linz, a young player is currently causing a fresh wind: Jonathan Oschgan, only 17 years old, is mixing up the domestic ice hockey scene. The wing striker has recently been in the line-up of the Linz A team and was promptly convincing.
A young player with great potential
On May 18, Oschgan celebrated his 17th birthday and just a few months later he was already on the ice for Black Wings. Yesterday’s game against the KAC was already his sixth competitive game in the Ice Hockey League, on Sunday against Red Bull Salzburg the seventh follows. Although he is currently benefiting from the injuries of the veterans Sean Collins and Ken Ograjensek, Oschgan has shown that he can exist in the highest league. Coach Philipp Lukas puts confidence in the youngsters and he pays back with committed services.
“Overview and game intelligence are my plus”
The former U20 champion was named Upper Austria’s young athletes of the year in 2024. In an interview with the “Upper Austrian Nations”, the Youngster is reflected: “I think that overview and game intelligence are.
His role model is none other than Alexander Ovetchkin. “It was impressive how he – at almost 40 – broke Wayne Gretzky’s torr record in the NHL,” says Oschgan appreciative. One day he also dreams of an engagement in the NHL: “This is probably the dream of every young player.”
The first step is taken
An assist in Bolzano is already on his account, the first goal in the highest division is probably only a matter of time. With his ambition, his willingness to learn and his positive charisma, Jonathan Oschgan has everything a professional needs to permanently assert himself.
