The Vienna Capitals suffered a bitter 2:3 home defeat against EC-KAC on Friday evening. The hoped-for liberation didn’t materialize – too many mistakes made life difficult for the Viennese.
Head coach Gerry Fleming was self-critical after the game: “We didn’t do enough offensively. There were also unnecessary losses of targets and mental mistakes that then led to counterattacks,” explained the Canadian. “Turnovers are to be avoided against any team, especially against one that has as much skill and speed as Klagenfurt.”
Despite the defeat, Fleming emphasized his team’s commitment: “We didn’t give up until the end, but in the end you have to be able to create plays consistently – we couldn’t do that today.”
Another factor: the high stress of the last few games. “In the last few games, some players had to shoulder far too much ice time,” Fleming continued. “The break until the next game will be good for us.”
