Still not. Switzerland definitely cannot do it at home. It seems that the curse has continued since the Helvetii participated in the Euro Hockey Tour with the best European nations.
After Sweden, it was the Czech Republic which was able to play against Patrick Fischer’s men. And if the Scandinavians had waited for the middle third to strike, Radim Rulik’s troop stood out from the initial period.
And as a reminder that the National League has some precious fireworks, it was the “Swiss” who sank Switzerland. Or rather the Davosians. In the 12th minute, it was Filip Zadina who was quickest to jump on a rebound and open the scoring. And a few seconds from the end of the first third, it was Matej Stransky who was able to beat Ludovic Waeber. In both situations, the Swiss defense seemed to be one step behind.
Without Romain Loeffel, absent for private reasons, the Swiss power play lacked weight. But in any case we had to wait until the end of the game to be entitled to Swiss numerical superiorities which ultimately resulted in nothing.
In the same way as against the Swedes, the Swiss tried, but a little something was missing in attack. Which again gives the impression that it is not easy to score goals without NHL players.
Switzerland now only has one chance to avoid finishing this home tournament empty-handed. Sunday at 3:30 p.m., the national team faces Finland with the only watchword: victory.
