The Tampa Bay Lightning won the NHL outdoor game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa after a spectacular comeback. In front of 64,617 spectators, Tampa Bay beat the Boston Bruins 6-5 after a penalty shootout in the 45th outdoor game in league history.
The Lightning took the lead after just eleven seconds through Brandon Hagel. However, Boston turned the game around with five goals until the 29th minute and moved ahead 5-1. Alex Steeves, Morgan Geekie (2), Viktor Arvidsson and Matthew Poitras scored for the Bruins.
Tampa Bay fought back with three power play goals in the second period. Oliver Bjorkstrand, Darren Raddysh and Nick Paul shortened. In the final third, Nikita Kutscherow equalized 5:5 in the 52nd minute.
Extra time remained goalless. In the penalty shootout, Jake Guentzel scored the only attempt and secured the victory for the Lightning. A goalkeeper fight during the game between Andrei Vasilevskiy (Tampa Bay) and Jeremy Swayman (Boston) made additional headlines.
