It is now a sad certainty: after just five appearances, Lauri Saastamoinen’s Alps Hockey League adventure is already over. Like his compatriot Usko Laaksonen, the 21-year-old Finn suffered a serious injury in the away game in Zell am See, which meant an early end to the season.
Saastamoinen is the sixth player, after David Bernhard, Luukas Kallioinen, Alexander Tell, Lukas Piff and Usko Laaksonen, whose injury extends beyond the current season. The contract was terminated by mutual agreement. Lauri returned to Finland yesterday and will continue his treatment there. The EC Bregenzerwald would like to thank Lauri for his commitment in the green, white and black jersey and wishes him a speedy and complete recovery.
Reaction in the center position
The loss of Saastamoinen once again opened up a gap in the center position. However, the sports management reacted immediately and was able to close it. Jesse Rantanen is new to the EC Bregenzerwald squad. The 22-year-old Finn was most recently under contract in his homeland in the second highest division and is moving to Vorarlberg with immediate effect. The 180 cm tall, 79 kg left-handed shooter is already in the country and will make his debut in the Walde uniform on Saturday.
