Contract expires: What’s next for VSV captain Rauchwald?

The VSV recently celebrated in Bolzano, but someone was once again watching the emotional victory from the outside: captain Alexander Rauchwald. The 32-year-old has been missing from the Eagles since the end of November after tearing his cruciate ligament and is currently at a turning point not only in terms of sport but also contractually.

Two and a half weeks after the operation, the crutches are a thing of the past and rehabilitation is going according to plan. “It’s getting better and better, I’m taking small steps forward,” Rauchwald told the “Kronen Zeitung”. The focus is currently on building muscle, especially in the left leg. A return to the ice is planned for late summer.

So while the captain is working on his comeback, the contract issue is running in the background. Rauchwald’s contract ends this season. His stance is clear: “The VSV is my first option.” There have already been initial discussions, but nothing concrete has been decided yet. Smoking forest is not only a central figure for the club in terms of sport, but also as a leading player.

Despite the injury, the captain remains present. Neo-coach Pierre Allard regularly seeks to exchange ideas with him, and Rauchwald tries, if possible, to provide inspiration off the ice. “I want to bring a positive atmosphere into the dressing room,” he emphasizes. He will be back in the hall on Friday against Salzburg.

One thing is clear: the demands at VSV remain high. Rauchwald doesn’t mince his words. “An early elimination before the pre-playoffs is not acceptable.” The coming weeks will show whether the new system will also be converted into points.
