The ice hockey world has a new milestone: Last night, Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals became the first player in the history of the National Hockey League to reach the incredible mark of 900 career goals!
The goal came in the second period when the score was 1-0. Ovechkin, who has also been the league’s record goalscorer since April, positioned himself in the left faceoff circle in the attacking third. He picked up a sharply bouncing puck that came from Jakob Chychrun and pushed the puck past Blues goalie Jordan Binnington into the net with a precise backhand.
Immediately afterwards, the cheering in the Capital One Arena knew no bounds: the entire Washington Capitals bench emptied itself to celebrate the 40-year-old superstar in an emotional moment.
After surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goalscoring record in April of this year, Ovechkin cements another success in his impressive career with this milestone.
