After three wins in a row, the Vienna Capitals were narrowly defeated by Hydro Fehérvár AV19 1-2 in their first game after Christmas.
There were no goals in the first third, but in the middle third, long-range shots from Donat Horvath (21′) and Joel Messner (28′) were scored behind Caps goalie Evan Cowley. The final third belongs entirely to the Viennese, who come close again with a goal from Jérémy Grégoire (44th). The Viennese team, who were ultimately superior, didn’t have enough time to score the equalizer. On Sunday the Vienna Capitals will host the EC-KAC in a probably full STEFFL Arena (5.30 p.m.).
Statement Kevin Constantine, head coach of the Vienna Capitals
“We were simply too late in many situations today. We didn’t play badly, but we were a little inferior in the first 30 minutes. When we tried to get back into the game, we played well, but the goal simply didn’t want to go into the goal. We had a few good chances, but didn’t convert them into goals. Our program is very tight, we have to get back up straight away and be ready for Sunday.”
