Official: The future of KAC scorer Nick Petersen has been decided!

The best import goalscorer in KAC history will also wear the red and white jersey next season: Nick Petersen is the first Legionnaire ever to stay in Klagenfurt for a ninth year.

The EC-KAC is pleased to announce that Nick Petersen will continue to wear the Red Jackets jersey in the upcoming season: The club allowed an early exit clause anchored in the agreement with the Canadian striker to expire, which means that the contract will automatically also be valid for the 2026/27 season.

Petersen becomes a record legionnaire!

In the coming season, Nick Petersen (36) will break another record, becoming the first legionnaire in the club’s entire history to spend nine seasons in Klagenfurt. He surpasses head coach Kirk Furey and Mike Siklenka, who each played for eight years with the EC-KAC. The right-handed shooter had already become the most successful import goalscorer in the club’s history last December, and he now has 151 goals in league games (and eight more in the Champions Hockey League).

Nick Petersen joined the Austrian record champions in the summer of 2018, since then he has made 404 competitive appearances, from which he has 421 scorer points (159 goals, 262 assists) and a +149 rating. In four of his seven post seasons in the red and white jersey, the Klagenfurt team reached the final series of what is now the win2day ICE Hockey League, and in 2019 and 2021 they were also crowned champions there. The Canadian also played well at international level: in the CHL history of the EC-KAC, no other player has more goals (8), assists (19) and scorer points (27) or a better plus/minus balance (+7) than Nick Petersen.

Statement from General Manager Oliver Pilloni

“Nick Petersen remains a key player in our attack and one of the most productive offensive players in the league. In his early years at our club, he also expanded the defensive dimension of his game, so that today he can be seen as an all-rounder with high scoring potential. He has therefore fulfilled an important role in our team for years, which we are very happy to continue to fill with him. When an import player has been active in one place and at one club for such a long time, then it can be seen that the cooperation is good for both It fits very well on both sides, that is the case with Nick Petersen and the EC-KAC, so we are looking forward to the next chapter together.”

“I am very happy that I will be wearing the red jacket jersey for another season. Over the years, Klagenfurt has become a real home for me, on and off the ice. The EC-KAC is more than a club, I see it as a big family that I really enjoy being a part of. Accordingly, I am very grateful for the great support that I receive here, from the fans, my teammates and everyone who works in the organization. It makes me proud to represent this club, especially when you Considering the great historical significance it has in Austria, having the opportunity to play here and create a ninth season is something special for me that I don’t take for granted. The anticipation of what’s to come is very great and motivates me to step on the gas again, continue to improve and leave everything I have in me on the ice!
