A shock moment in training almost means Mario Huber’s career end. As the “Tyrolean daily newspaper” reports, the 29-year-old striker from Red Bull Salzburg suffered serious facial injuries three weeks ago after a puck deflected by the goalie unhappily hit his face.
The native Innsbrucker sustained several fractures on the yoke bone, nasal bone and eyebow and had to be operated on. “Perhaps one of 1000 slices catches you exactly-and the puck brutally hit you. If the pane hits my face for a centimeter higher, I no longer need to think about playing hockey,” says Huber. A loss of the left eyelight was temporarily in the room – in the end, however, the father of two was lucky in misfortune.
Nevertheless, Huber doesn’t think of a career end. Instead, he draws consequences: “Unfortunately, such an incident is part of the professional risk. But I decided to play with grids now.”
His comeback in the ICE Hockey League is realistic in about three weeks, according to the “Tyrolean daily”. Huber is currently working on his return in the Red Bull Hockey Academy with slight training, but has to avoid any pressure on the head. Despite everything, he proves humor: “If everything has healed, you shouldn’t even see a scar.
