Attack against referee: Former EBEL crack with a monster penalty in the DEL!

Alexandre Grenier has been suspended for six games by the disciplinary committee of the German Ice Hockey League (PENNY DEL) after assaulting a match official. In addition, a fine was imposed on the attacker.

The incident occurred in the match against the Kölner Haie on January 11, 2026. Grenier was prosecuted under Rule 40.2 – one of the most serious offenses in the rules. The punishment was correspondingly severe.

The Canadian has been one of the DEL’s top performers for years and is a central figure in the Augsburg Panthers. He also attracted international attention early on: in the 2012/13 season, Grenier played 25 games in the Red Bull Salzburg jersey in the then EBEL and recorded 13 points.
