ÖEHV talent Rohrer fights for NHL-Platz!

The Vorarlberg Vinzenz Rohrer is currently preparing for the rookie camp of the Montreal Canadiens. There he wants to prove himself for the NHL. In an interview with the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten”, the native of Rankweiler tells about his previous time in Montreal.

Rohrer, who recently celebrated two Swiss championship titles and victory in the Champions Hockey League with the ZSC Lions Zurich, has been preparing intensively for the selection phase in Montreal for a week. “Actually everything is new to me – I was immersed in a completely new world of ice hockey. This is very exciting,” the striker describes his first impressions in an interview with the “Vorarlberg Nachrichten”.

Competition in the traditional club

Rohrer is currently training with numerous talents, but increasingly also with NHL master players. The final squad decision is made shortly before the start of the season on October 4th. “In truth, it’s about proverbial survival. My goal is to stay with it as long as possible and survive as many cuts as possible,” he explains.

The chances could not be bad: The Canadiens are in a rebuild phase and want to build a young team for the future. Nevertheless, Rohrer remains realistic: “In the end, only what you deliver in training every day counts.”

No guarantees despite being carried out

His international experiences with the Lions and the Austrian national team are valuable, but do not represent a bonus: “Of course I take a lot with me. But that has no influence on the decision of those responsible.”

Dream NHL lives

It is open whether it is enough for the NHL this season. There are alternatives: A contract for the ZSC Lions continues, and use in the AHL is also possible. One thing is clear: his three-year entry contract with the Canadiens is signed and the dream NHL lives.
