Black and Yellow Legends return to Kagran
For the Vienna Capitals’ 25th birthday, some of the capital club’s most influential players are returning to the STEFFL Arena. Of course, the legendary numbers 4, 6 and 50 should not be missing. Phil Lakos, Rafael Rotter and Mario Fischer, the only three players whose jersey numbers hang under the roof of the STEFFL Arena, have already confirmed their participation. The captains of the two championship teams have also announced their presence. Dieter Kalt and Jonathan Ferland were the first to lift the championship trophy in 2005 and 2017 respectively. Although he was denied a championship in the Caps jersey, his impact on the organization is still noticeable today: We are of course talking about Benoit Gratton, former captain of the Vienna team and MVP of the 2010/11 season. The goalkeeper duo is Bernhard Starkbaum, probably the best Austrian goalie of the last decade, and Christian Cseh, champion from 2005. Other champion cracks from 2005 who have announced their arrival are Yuri Tsurenkov, Bob Wren and the great Darcy Werenka. The final squad will be announced in advance of the game.
Basic squad Caps Heroes:
Bernhard Starkbaum, Christian Cseh, Darcy Werenka, Mario Fischer, Dan Bjornlie, Phil Lakos, Andre Lakos, Peter Casparsson, Bob Wren, Rafael Rotter, Benoit Gratton, Jonathan Ferland, Dieter Kalt
Concentrated star power on the other side
The squad of the Czech team that will face the Caps legends on December 13th could not be more top-class. The selection consists of Olympic champions from 1998 and other world champions. The legendary Jaromír Jágr has won pretty much everything there is to win. The 53-year-old Hall of Famer, who is part of the Triple Gold Club (Stanley Cup winner, Olympic champion, world champion), still plays in his homeland for Rytíři Kladno in the Czech Extraliga. Also part of the team that will play at the STEFFL Arena on December 13th is one of the best goalkeepers of all time, Dominik Hašek. Five-time world champion David Výborný, the record player of the Czech national team, will also honor the Kagran Ice Sports Center. With Patrik Eliáš and Milan Hejduk, two more NHL legends will face the Caps team. The oldest player will be the legendary Vladimír Růžička at the proud age of 62. The Czech Icons squad will also be completed in the weeks before the game.
Basic Squad Czech Icons:
Jan Čaloun, Patrik Eliáš, Dominik Hašek, Jaromír Jágr, David Moravec, Petr Nedvěd, Michal Neuvirth, Martin Ručinský, Vladimír Růžička, Petr Svoboda, Radim Vrbata, David Výborný, Milan Hejduk, Michal Rozsíval
Regulate
The Night of Hockey Legends is played over three thirds of 15 minutes each. There will be four field players on the ice per team. In the event of a penalty, there is no power play, instead a penalty shot is taken. In the event of a tie after 45 minutes, a five-minute extra time follows. If there is still no winner after extra time, a penalty shootout will follow with five shooters per team. Speaking of penalty shootouts: Regardless of the outcome of the game, there will still be one so that you can see one or two legendary moves in the STEFFL Arena.
Lots of action around the STEFFL Arena
On the match day itself, there is a lot to experience in the Fan Village in front of the STEFFL Arena, which will be open a few hours before the game. Among other things, there will be autograph sessions with some of the Night of Hockey Legends protagonists. There will also be competitions, our own fan articles and food trucks on site. Exact details about the Fan Village will be available in the run-up to the Night of Hockey Legends.
