“It was a brutally disjointed game. A lot of things we planned to do didn’t work out,” was also echoed Head coach Peter Schweda the disappointment of the 1:3. France had a significant increase in chances, especially in the first third, but there was no getting past Martin Haim. The penalty killing also worked well, as they were outnumbered three times in the first 20 minutes alone.
The middle third developed into a duel of equals, in which there were no real great opportunities for either side. It wasn’t until the final period that all the goals were scored and France were lucky with a shot from the blue line by Andrea Meunier. Within 37 seconds, France managed to pull away to 3-0 in the 53rd and 54th minutes.
Austria only scored in the final minute in the power play through Emil Wagner. So it should stay at 1:3.
Head coach Peter Schweda: “For us it’s important to analyze the game quickly and pick up the boys. It’s time to get back to the start. We stay in the here and now and will come back stronger on Tuesday against Estonia.”
