The EC Bregenzerwald speaks out after the rumors regarding a forced merger and thus ensures clarity – we have also taken up this topic.
The EC Bregenzerwald takes part in the article “Conversation in the town hall: Is Vorarlberg ice hockey threatened with a forced merger?” as follows position:
Initially, we deliberately refrained from commenting on the reporting, as the article largely lacks any factual basis and, from the club’s point of view, does not indicate a serious approach to the actual circumstances. However, after the topic was picked up by other media and this caused increasing uncertainty in the club’s environment – especially in a sensitive sporting phase before key games with a view to the playoffs – EC Bregenzerwald now feels compelled to clarify.
Contrary to what is stated in the article, Mr. Hannes Mayer did not contact the EC Bregenzerwald. The claim that interview or conversation requests were “categorically blocked” is objectively incorrect and represents an untrue statement of fact. It does not meet the requirements of careful journalistic research and creates a distorted image of the association’s willingness to communicate.
It is true that discussions about the future development of EC Bregenzerwald are taking place at various levels. However, these discussions take place within the framework of the existing club structures. A so-called “forced merger” with another club is never up for debate. Such a representation is unrealistic for structural reasons alone: sports clubs are established organizations with their own identity that cannot be merged or renamed at will like companies and are not subject to political control.
The association’s involvement in party political power games or party-affiliated networks, as described in the article, is also firmly rejected. Such representations have no basis and do not correspond to the reality of the association’s work.
The claim that a change of name to “EC Unterland” is being considered within the club is also completely unfounded. Apart from the fact that such considerations never existed, such a naming would be objectively ruled out simply because of the obvious risk of confusion with league rivals HC Unterland.
As things currently stand, the EC Bregenzerwald will not comment or pursue this topic any further. The association has the information that the matter will be discussed in a clarifying manner in the responsible editorial team. Against this background, it is assumed that the internal consequences will be drawn.
Future club-related information will preferably be communicated to the NEUE sports editorial team via Günther Böhler, who has distinguished himself in the previous collaboration through his professional competence, on-site presence and an objective approach to sports journalism.
