ÖEHV: U18 national team with dress rehearsal for the World Cup!

Austria’s squad for the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division I, Group B includes 20 players, plus three goalkeepers. Head coach Peter Schweda has nominated seven defenders and 13 forwards. On Wednesday evening they will play a final test match against the U21s of the Fehervar Hockey Academy, which will give the ÖEHV selection the finishing touches for the World Cup from April 25th to May 1st in Tallinn (EST).

“Everything is currently going according to plan. We are looking forward to the test match against the U21 of the Fehervar Hockey Academy and the World Cup itself. On the Thursday after the test match we will take off to Tallinn, and on Saturday we will start the World Cup against Italy,” says Head coach Peter Schweda looking forward to the coming days.

World Cup squad is ready

The squad for the World Cup has been found. The three goals set out in preparation have almost been ticked off Peter Schweda says: “Our first goal was to take the final step towards the World Cup in terms of cohesion and standards. That has been checked off. The same goes for finding a squad and distributing roles in the blocks and among the players. After the test match, we can also check off the third goal, namely how and what we play. The how is clear to all players. The what is tactical and we will do that against Fehervar’s U21s.”

With a few exceptions, the World Cup squad is the same as that of the February break, in which they played two games against the A-nation Denmark and another against Ukraine, which plays in Division IA. Denmark was initially defeated 5-2.

While the Danes were promoted to the top division in the U18 age category last year, Austria only had to move up to Division IB because they lost a direct duel against Hungary.
