On Wednesday evening the Red Jackets will be in Brunico/Bruneck for the tenth time in the past 24 months to compete against HC Pustertal. On www.kac.at the red jackets look at the duel between two top six teams as follows.
On the 47th matchday in the win2day ICE Hockey League, which has been partially brought forward due to Italy’s participation in the Olympic ice hockey tournament, the EC-KAC (27 wins, eleven defeats) will play away at HC Pustertal (22 wins, 15 defeats) on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. The encounter represents the fourth duel of the season between the current fifth and the current first in the table, the first three all went to the red jackets. The game in the Intercable Arena in Brunico/Brunico starts at 7:45 p.m., as is usual on weekdays in South Tyrol, Sporturope.TV
The initial situation
The EC-KAC not only clinched its fifth win in a row on Sunday evening, the 5:3 away win at the Black Wings Linz also secured the record champions’ early participation in the 2026 playoffs. The Red Jackets, who have scored points in 32 of their 38 games of the season so far, are currently leading the win2day ICE Hockey League table with a four-point lead over the Graz99ers. The main success factor in the season so far has been Klagenfurt’s consistency and balance: they have scored points in each of their last 15 home games and have an average of 2.20 points per game in away games. This fabulous value in encounters abroad is 90.7 percent above the average of the other twelve ICE clubs. The grotesque 6:9 defeat in Innsbruck at the end of November can be seen as a turning point in the KAC season so far: In the 17 league games since then, Rot-Weiß recorded a goal difference of 63:30, although the total expected goals for this period were 49.1 to 59.8. The league leader usually achieves his successes through the performance of the collective: ten squad players – including three defenders – have already reached or exceeded the 20 scorer point mark.
Personnel
The EC-KAC can rely on Fabian Hochegger, who was missing on Sunday due to illness, in the away game in Brunico/Brunico. Defender Jesper Jensen Aabo also returned to full team training on Tuesday and is expected to make a comeback to the game this week. The Dane won’t be on the bus to South Tyrol yet; Josh Teves, David Maier, Jordan Murray, Oliver Lam, Thomas Hundertpfund and Luka Gomboc are also missing, a total of seven regulars. The duel with HC Pustertal is the start of a road trip for the Red Jackets: The team will spend the night in Italy after the encounter and travel directly to Feldkirch on Thursday, where the away game at Pioneers Vorarlberg is scheduled for Friday.
