With 34 points, Olimpija Ljubljana is currently in second place in the table – things are going well for the dragons from the Slovenian capital. Nevertheless, they saw a need for action and made another transfer.
The Dragons are bringing the physically strong Andrew MacWilliam back to the win2day ICE Hockey League. The 35-year-old Canadian was on the ice for EC Red Bull Salzburg in 2022/23 and won the title with the Mozartstadt team. In the last two years, the left-handed shooter defended for EHC Munich and the Cardiff Devils. For MacWilliam, Laibach will be the fourth stop outside North America.
Anže Ulčar, CEO of Olimpija Ljubljana: “We wanted to strengthen and stabilize our defense. Despite the victories and the high ranking after a third of the season, we believe that we are conceding too many goals. At the same time, we wanted to sign a player who is physical and decisive in the defensive third and in front of the goal – and Andrew is exactly that type of player. He also knows head coach Ben Cooper’s playing style and will be able to adapt easily in this regard.”
The Dragons continue their absolute top duel against league leaders Pustertal on Wednesday.
