At the age of 37, the American TJ Brennan hasn’t had enough yet and is adding another year to his professional career. The defender remains loyal to the multinational win2day ICE Hockey League.
In 2020, Brennan played in Europe for the first time after almost 700 season games in the American Hockey League (AHL). In 2021/22, he moved to Salzach, where he became league MVP at EC Red Bull Salzburg. Back then he delivered incredible numbers: 20 goals and 47 points, as well as a +33 – as a defender. In the playoffs he added another twelve points in as many games.
Surprising change to laggard
After this dream season, offers rained down, and Brennan ultimately decided to move to the Swiss first division club HC Ajoie. This surprised many people, as the team from the canton of Jura has had a very difficult time in the National League in recent years. Brennan spent three years in the NL and scored 63 points in 109 games.
Return to the “domestic” league
Last summer he made a comeback in the ICE: Brennan signed with Olimpija Ljubljana, where he was supposed to play big again. 46 games, 22 goals and 53 points. With Brad McClure (31), Mathias From (27) and Adam Helewka (24), only three cracks scored more goals than the defender. In terms of points, he came third behind teammates Nicolai Meyer (59) and From (55). But surprisingly, he remained rather pale in the playoffs. In ten games, the Dman only had two scorer points. Laibach prevailed against Bolzano in the first playoff round, but they said goodbye to the finalists from Pustertal after five games – and that with only six goals scored.
The dragons from Laibach and TJ Brennan will continue to work together next season. The Slovenians and the American confirmed this with a video that was published on the Dragons’ social media channels. Brennan signed until the end of the 2026/27 season.
