The duel between the EC iDM heat pumps VSV and FTC-Telekom offered everything that ice hockey is all about. The hosts got off to the perfect start: Paul Sintschnig, the league’s 16-year-old shooting star, gave Villach an early lead before Thomas Vallant and Nikita Scherbak made it 3-0. But the Hungarians didn’t give up. Just eleven seconds later, Paavo Tyni scored, and in the second period two goals from András Mihalik and another goal from Adam Kestila turned the game in favor of FTC. The league newcomer defended their narrow lead until the final seconds before Kevin Hancock equalized at the last second and caused the town hall to shake. In extra time, Adam Helewka finally secured the decision and a 5-4 home win. The Eagles thus defended their place in the top 6 for the time being and stopped the Hungarians’ attack.
